An agreement has been reached to sign a Memorandum of Cooperation

Updated: Feb 1

In a significant development for road safety in Armenia's Shirak region, Governor Arthur Khachatryan and National Road Safety Council Director Poghos Shahinyan convened to address pressing traffic safety concerns, with a particular focus on the city of Gyumri.

The high-level meeting highlighted the multifaceted challenges facing road safety in the region, ranging from infrastructure improvements such as road markings to the critical need for behavioural changes among both pedestrians and drivers.

As a result of the discussions, both parties have agreed to formalise their commitment to enhancing road safety through a Memorandum of Cooperation, slated to be signed in the near future. This agreement is expected to pave the way for a series of initiatives, including:

Implementation of road safety education programs in local schools

Launch of public awareness campaigns to promote safe road behavior

The National Road Safety Council, established in 2005, brings a wealth of experience to this partnership, having spearheaded numerous similar initiatives and played an active role in shaping legislative regulations in the field.

This collaboration between regional authorities and the national road safety body marks a significant step towards addressing the complex issues surrounding traffic safety in Shirak and could serve as a model for other regions in Armenia.
